It is with heavy hearts that we announce the suspension of operations of the CAMRA South Fraser Branch. Below is a statement from CAMRA BC regarding this, which is effective immediately
We are sad to announce that the CAMRA BC Executive has taken the difficult decision to suspend the South Fraser Branch of CAMRA BC until a vote can be held at our AGM.
When this CAMRA BC Executive was elected we wanted to pursue a mandate of transparency and modernisation to reflect what CAMRA BC has become and create a platform for growth in the future. In order to do this we have asked branches to fulfil their legal obligations to provide budgets, minutes, financials and membership information. However, despite repeated requests and offers of help and support the South Fraser Executive has not complied.
A large amount of time and resources have been spent this year trying to help and restructure South Fraser Branch but it is now time to close the branch. We thank the executive for their work but in order to protect the reputation and goodwill that CAMRA BC has earned we feel that this is the best course of action now that all other avenues have been exhausted.
We want to apologise to all South Fraser Branch members for taking this step without consultation as we have been unable to contact them. We wish to let them know that we have been left with no other options, that they are still valued members of CAMRA BC and their rights and benefits will continue. For administrative purposes all South Fraser Branch members will be added to the Vancouver Branch membership.
CAMRA BC President Ari Dressler, who took over as South Fraser President a month ago, said “This is the hardest thing I’ve had to do as President. Putting a branch on hiatus is never taken lightly but we’ve been left with no other options. Hopefully in the future we will be able to open a new branch for the area.”
